Iraq Crowned West Asia Champion and Receives the Flag for the Next Edition

Iraq was crowned champion of the West Asia Championship after achieving an impressive total of 92 medals, including 50 gold, 27 silver, and 15 bronze medals. This accomplishment reflects the great efforts made by the athletes and the technical and administrative staff throughout the competition.

This triumph came as a result of continuous work and high discipline demonstrated by Iraq’s champions, who delivered outstanding technical performances and deservedly stood on the podium, confirming Iraq’s sporting status and its ability to compete strongly at the regional level.

The award ceremony was attended by the head of the Iraqi delegation, Saad Abdul-Majeed, along with the President of the Paralympic Committee, Obaid Al-Fartousi, the Second Vice President Mujli Al-Jabri, Assistant Secretary-General Hashim Faraz, Executive Office members Majid Jamil and Abbas Wanas, as well as Executive Director Mohammed Al-Salami.

On the sidelines of the closing ceremony, Iraq received the flag to host the next edition of the West Asia Championship, which will be held in Basra in 2028. This step reflects the confidence of regional federations in Iraq’s organizational capabilities and its experience in hosting championships, in addition to its competitive successes.

This achievement serves as an important motivation to continue working and building on what has been accomplished, with great ambitions to deliver an outstanding edition worthy of Iraq’s name and sporting history, and to present an honorable image of Iraqi sports in regional events.
