The capital Baghdad today witnessed the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement between the Iraqi National Paralympic Committee and the Ministry of Education, aiming to integrate the principles and values of the Paralympic movement into school curricula for grades five through nine. The signing was attended by Minister of Education Dr. Ibrahim Al-Janabi and Paralympic Committee President Dr. Omar Al-Zaidi.
The agreement includes developing special educational content covering:
Inspiring stories of prominent Iraqi Paralympic athletes
Simplified explanation of classification systems in various Paralympic sports
Lessons on the history of the global and local Paralympic movement
Practical activities aimed at promoting a culture of respect, equality, and inclusion
The Paralympic Committee will also train 200 teachers as master trainers, who will in turn transfer knowledge to their colleagues in the governorates. The program is expected to reach more than 500,000 male and female students during the current academic year.
The Minister of Education stated: “This agreement represents a qualitative shift in our educational vision. We want our sons and daughters to grow up with values of diversity and respect, and to understand that disability does not hinder giving and achievement. Paralympic athletes are living models of determination and excellence.”
The President of the Paralympic Committee added: “Education is the foundation of societal change. When a child learns from a young age that a person with a disability can be an Olympic champion, we are building a new generation that sees possibilities, not limitations.”
